The institution that is Soccer Saturday may be somewhat outdated what with online streaming and wall to wall Premier League coverage but every now and then it reminds us why we still inevitably tune in. Usually those reminders have something to do with seeing Phil Thompson react to things.
Liverpool went into today riding high. Undefeated and having not conceded a goal, a home match against West Ham was a banker. Fast forward to 5 o'clock and Dejan Lovren is getting savaged while his manager is offering some feeble excuses.
All we can say is that Phil Thompson must have had a glimpse into the future because his reaction to Manuel Lanzini's opener for the Hammer's bears all the hallmarks of a man knowing that all that early season promise is about to go down the hill sharpish.
