The early rounds of the FA Cup could have been lit up by Gary Neville and Paul Scholes last season if it wasn't for the latter's retirement belly. The Class of 92 (minus Beckham), as they've somewhat irritatingly come to be known, bought Salford City a few years ago and things are going quite well for the club.
This week, the BBC are broadcasting a two part documentary entitled 'Class of 92: Out of Their League' and it looks rather enjoyable., One thing that has come out of it already is the fact that Neville was very serious about coming out of retirement to play in the FA Cup against Ashton United last year.
The only thing stopping him was the following conversation with Scholes.
GN: What do you think about playing for Salford against Ashton United in the FA Cup? One word answer.
PS: Shambles.
GN: Go on. One game! I'll play if you play.
PS: I'm fat as fuck. What would it achieve?
GN: We'll get 2000 in the crowd. It would create a bit of excitement. And everyone would see you play! Do you fancy it?
As you may have guessed, Scholes opted against dusting off his boots once more.
