Rio Ferdinand Paid Liverpool A Truly High Compliment After Beating Man United

Manchester United fans are used to standards of a higher variety than those being provided by the club's current crop of players.
These are standards born, said Paul Scholes, of their predecessors at the club - Ince, Bruce, Keane and fellow greats.

After United's 2-0 defeat to Liverpool on Thursday night, Scholes stated that United's current squad have "fallen well short" of the club's standards and expectations.

United's lack of fight and commitment irked Ferdinand in particular, who says he became a United fan by playing at Old Trafford for 10 years. Sitting alongside Steve McManaman who, to be fair to him, was as happy as a pig in shit, the pair of United legends looked especially forlorn. Scholes even more so than usual.

Fittingly, neither had an answer when McManaman asked:

How can you have Fellaini and Schneiderlin as [your] centre midfield?

After this clip, Rio Ferdinand said of Liverpool:

They played like a Man United team - with that kind of intensity - like a United team from back in the day. They out-fought us, out-ran us. Right from the word go.

While some may interpret that as a kind of back-handed compliment, it is actually quite a substantial thing to say considering the teams that Ferdinand himself played in.
