One of the craziest stories to come out of the NFL in some time took place last year, when New York Giants defensive lineman Jason Pierre-Paul became the victim of a freak firework accident that left him with a disfigured hand after his fingers needed to be amputated in surgery.

It was the fourth of July, and JPP was sending over $1000 worth of fireworks into the night sky for his neighborhood to enjoy, as he did every year, but as the night was nearing its conclusion a seriously unfortunate accident took place. Pierre-Paul had not previously spoken on the incident until this week, where he sat down with Sports Illustrated to give an account of events.

Yikes.

Pierre-Paul returned to action in the second half of last season, as his position of defensive end thankfully didn't rely too heavily on the use of his fingers, but his story will now serve as a lesson to others, as if it was needed, that you must handle fireworks with care.

Or, you know, not handle them at all if you're a professional athlete.
