Columbus Crew goalkeeper Steve Clark was given a standard back-pass almost directly from kick-off, but the nerves of the big occasion appeared to get the best of him as he was closed down by Portland Timbers striker Diego Valeri, and well..

And it got worse for Columbus Crew, and again it was a silly mistake that cost them to make it 2-0 to Portland after just six minutes..

It looked set up to be glory for Premier League icon Liam Ridgewell and his Timbers teammates, but Columbus managed to pull a goal back after 16 minutes in what was a crazy first half. And again it was a goalkeeping error:

The Portland Timbers hung on to win 2-1 and win their first MLS Cup title.
