Lionel Messi has retired from international football last night after another penalty shootout loss in a Copa America final.
He retires trophyless.
"For me the national team is over. I've done all I can, it hurts not to be a champion," he told journalists afterwards.

Argentina have now failed to score in their last three Copa Americas and last night marked the second year in succession that they were defeated on penalties by Chile.
Having watched Romero save Vidal's opening penalty, Lionel Messi strode forward and blazed the ball over the bar, to the horror of the fans massed behind the goal.
Echoes of Roberto Baggio in 1994 only this time Messi took the first penalty so it wasn't immediately fatal. Chile won the shootout 4-2.
