Olympique Marseille were in Portugal on Thursday night for a Europa League showdown with Guimaraes hoping to claim a result that would leave them on top of Group I.
Instead, the club will need to address an incredible incident that took place before kick-off as footage has emerged of Patrice Evra kicking a supporter in the head after an aggressive discussion took place between the players and fans.
According to reports, Evra heard one or more fans insulting him when he went over to investigate what was being said. From there, more fans came down to share their opinions and more players came over to intervene, which is where the following clip from French journalist Karim Attab picks up:
#VSCOM un truc de fou s'est passé entre des supporters semble-t-il Marseillais et des joueurs dont Evra ! Ça a tapé ! @OM_Officiel #TeamOM pic.twitter.com/C9Cozns6X4

That is shocking.
Marseille fans are notorious for their passion for their club which can often spill over, but you would think that by travelling to Portugal to watch their team they would be in higher spirits.
Evra could be facing punishment as he flashed a leg up and made contact with one of the fans, and we are sure he will release a statement in the not too distant future to explain exactly what was going on.
Not exactly the best preparation for a European fixture.
