You get the sense that Mark Lawrenson is the kind of man that doesn't really care what other people think about about him. He's 'old-school' as some geezer in a North London pub would probably put it. The same fictitious geezer would probably have been in stitches of laughter had he been tuning in to the TV3 coverage of Arsenal vs Bayern Munich on Tuesday.
We're not entirely sure if the accusations of racism are correct, we'll leave it to anthropologists to decide if the French are a race but Lawrenson definitely went down the route of some outdated stereotypes when discussing Olivier Giroud's goal.
He's French, he'll have a big nose, won't he?
We had no idea that was even a stereotype that was going around but it's Lawro and sure he's gas altogether. A proper bloke, a geezer if you will.
Unsurprisingly, Lawrenson's take on Giroud's goal was not missed by many fans. The tweets are numerous with the vast majority accusing Lawrenson of racism but we'll leave it to Kildare Gunner for the defining take on it all.
Mark Lawrenson's casual racism about Giroud having a big nose 'cos he's French was an embarrassment. Everyone knows Girouds face is perfect!
