PSG midfielder Marco Verratti is certainly not known for his long-range screamers, but he found the top corner with a cracking strike against Bastia on Saturday afternoon.
Unfortunately for the Italian, his strike pissed off a lot of people as it was scored while the opposition goalkeeper was assisting Blaise Matuidi who was down injured.
Bastia are far from everybody's favourite team in France after recent events but they have been receiving sympathy as Verratti's goal effectively killed the game at 2-0 and the replay clearly shows that the goalkeeper was distracted by tending to Matuidi.
Was it legal? Yes. Was it in the interests of 'fair play'? No.
Verratti's reaction also suggests that perhaps he thought the game had stopped and was just taking a shot for a laugh, but either way it counted and it's poor form. Matuidi's apologetic attitude towards the Bastia 'keeper further aids that argument.
PSG would go on to win 5-0, but that left a sour taste in the mouth for many watching.
