Manchester United's season under Louis Van Gaal was summed up on Tuesday night, as after finding a way to somehow find themselves in a position to win, they managed to carelessly let slip what would have been a very important win.
It seems inevitable that Van Gaal will be relieved of his duties this summer, with Mourinho waiting in the wings to swoop in, but the FA Cup complicates things for the club. Most fans have accepted that the club must move on from Van Gaal, as West Ham exposed their remarkable fragility despite the best efforts of the genuinely top class David De Gea and Anthony Martial.
The subject of disucssion in Van Gaal's chat with the BBC, however, was instead dominated by United's bizarre arrival to the stadium, under attack from West Ham fans, and the delay that was caused.
The BBC reporter was a bit cheeky by suggesting that United plan earlier for future London trips, and Van Gaal was adamant to make him backtrack on that idea.
His management style and odd team selections aside, he will be missed as a Premier League character when he does go.
Nobody can quite make a professional feel like a small child in trouble like Louis Van Gaal.
