It hasn't been a trademark year for Luis Suarez.
The heights of previous seasons are not quite being reached, and, with Barcelona's reliance upon Lionel Messi's performances showing no signs of abating, the Uruguayan will be happy to have opened the scoring against Deportivo tonight - even if the Iniesta/Messi axis had done the hard work.
Yet, only weeks after Barcelona were denied a decisive goal against Valencia after a shot from Messi had clearly crossed the line, the lack of VAR in La Liga has once again been decisive - if not necessarily important to the match itself.
With Barcelona in possession of a comfortable 2-0 lead, the greater issue at stake here was the denial of a wonderfully innovative goal from Suarez.
After his initial shot had been parried out by the Deportivo 'keeper, Suarez was the first to react. Rushing to the 'keeper's left, Suarez could perhaps have taken his next shot a little more traditionally.
However, keen to impress perhaps, Suarez attempted a wonderful 'rabona'.
Hit cleanly and on-target, Ruben did manage to clear away the second effort, but almost certainly after it had already crossed his goal-line.
Although probably unimportant for the purposes of this particular match, the necessity for VAR in La Liga will likely intensify after this latest incident.
