Brazilian midfielder-turned-emergency-defender Lucas Leiva is one of the most popular figures at Liverpool today as he has been around working his socks off for the best part of a decade.

While he initially struggled to earn the adoration of some supporters as a player who always did the dirty work rather than grab the headlines, he is most definitely part of the furniture at Melwood and is a key figure as one of the senior members of the first-team squad.

He arrived on Merseyside in 2007 with very little English, so what he has learned he has taken from his surroundings, and as a result he has developed one of the most enjoyable footballer accents since Peter Lovenkrands and his Glaswegian twang after the Danish striker learned English at Rangers.

An outstanding example of this accent can be seen in a teaser for an interview that Lucas has done with The Anfield Wrap, as he took a brilliant dig at Jamie Carragher's criticism of Liverpool on Sky. His delivery of the word "shite" is simply perfection.

Jamie Carragher did not have much to say in response:

Expertly handled by Lucas, the full interview promises to be unmissable for Liverpool fans.
