THE FAMINE IS OVER!
After 30 years in the doldrums of domestic football, Liverpool have been crowned league champions for the first time since 1990.
The confirmation of their title win hardly came about in the manner their fans would have expected. Not only has the league been all but wrapped up since January, but the coronavirus pandemic ensured this would be no regular title win. The long gap in the season meant the wait went on for a few months longer, while the celebrations certainly won't be the same without their supporters being present.
Considering this, it is perhaps fitting that they won the title tonight without even kicking a ball.
Their status as champions was confirmed after Manchester City's failure to win at Stamford Bridge tonight, a game which Manchester City never really looked up for. When Christian Pulisic gave Chelsea the lead in the first half, you got the feeling it was going to be Liverpool's night.
Things became very nervy in the second period. Kevin De Bruyne scored an incredible free-kick and Manchester City began to turn the screw. However, it was game over once Fernandinho conceded that penalty late on.
Liverpool would be champions.
Liverpool players were able to come together to celebrate their win, and what an occasion it was.
