17-year-old Irish midfielder Thomas O'Connor scored a Christmas cracker as Southampton dumped Manchester United out of the FA Youth Cup at Old Trafford.
O'Connor, who signed a professional deal with the Saints a month after his 17th birthday last May, starred for both Southampton's u18s and u21s last season, and equalised for his side late on after Dutch wonderkid Tahith Chong put United in front. Will Smallborne won it for Southampton with his own stunning effort.
New Ross native O'Connor came down on the Kilkenny side of the argument when choosing his GAA allegiances; the Tullogher Rosberson starlet represented the Cats at Minor level before moving to England to pursue a career in some foreign sport, and technically still qualifies.
What a hit from the young man with his feet last night however, and at Old Trafford of all places, as Southampton under-18s secured a famous victory.
Unreal win against United at Old Trafford in the youth cup tonight! #WeMarchOn 🔴🔴
