Kieran Sadlier joined a long list of players who have made the move from the League of Ireland to England when he joined Doncaster at the start of this year.
The fortunes of others to commit to similar transfer have been mixed. It has worked out for Sean Maguire, but the likes of Andy Boyle and Graham Burke have had less success.
Sadlier would lead the line for Doncaster in the opening game of the League One season this afternoon, with Gillingham visiting the Keepmoat Stadium.
The match would finish in a 1-1, with Sadlier scoring his team's only goal. It was a cracking strike too, meeting the ball on the volley with his body at an awkward angle to the goal.
After having plenty of time to settle into his new surroundings over the past few months, Sadlier will be hoping to make a big impact in League One this season.
He showed in the League of Ireland that he possesses plenty of talent, and he should be given the opportunity to showcase that at Doncaster. If he does so, he will no doubt have his eye on an international call-up.
