Julian Dicks is a throwback to a different time, and a different game.
Back when he was smashing home penalties in West Ham colours, the "traditional" full-back used to enjoy smashing a few of his opponents as well.
Nowadays you simply do not get away with a rash challenge because it's your first, and rightly so, but things were a little different when Dicks was terrifying wingers throughout the Premier League, and he has explained how things worked when a quick winger would threaten your goal while talking on the fantastically named series 'Sex, Drugs, & Carlton Cole'.

Anyone else get a little bit worried for the interviewer at the end there?
Dicks was borderline maniacal in his challenges and you really got the sense that he enjoyed the physicality of how football used to be.
A lot has changed, and sadly for Dicks, footballers are now protected from the type of things mentioned above. There are now two types of football fan when it comes to that sort of stuff, those who think it is right to be eradicated from the game, and those who think the game has gone soft. Where do you lie?
