Liverpool gave Aston Villa a proper battering in the Premier League today, and any even teeny-tiny glimmer of hope in terms of Premier League survival has now most likely been extinguished for the fans of the club.
6-0 was the final score, against a Liverpool side who haven't exactly been the most convincing team themselves this season, and in the post-match analysis Jamie Carragher gave the current Villa squad a dressing down which nobody can really argue with.
Carragher described the Aston Villa players as 'embarrassing' and claimed that if that they were a Championship side, they would be near the bottom of the league.
It's pretty much spot on.
Aston Villa have landed themselves in an awful mess, but with many of these players who are performing so poorly presumably not willing to drop down to the second tier of English football, at least the fans may not have to watch such abject performances for much longer.
