Balls reader Patrick Kilbane is currently working in Venice, and whilst watching AC Milan's 1-1 draw with Lazio on Venetian tv channel 7 Gold, he couldn't help but spot Chippy, Giles and Dunphy's Italian cousins engaging in a bit of verbal sparring of sorts, but with far more physical gesticulation than we're used to in these parts.
The bemused look on the presenters' faces as the lads tear into each other will be by no means unfamiliar to fans of RTÉ's famed Panel. And, though there's no way of knowing for sure as to whether one of them has breached watershed protocol by labelling Milan boss Siniša Mihajlović a bullshitter, it's very evident from whom these lads take their inspiration.
Perhaps Manuela Spinelli passed along some DVDs. Just imagine Eamon Dunphy having a cut off the wannabe Giles on the left when Ireland take on Italy at the Euros. Guaranteed fireworks.
