What's at stake?

Form Guide
Ireland's first game came against group favourites France in a rocking Aviva stadium back in March. While Ireland's showing was gallant and revived a hopeful feeling Irish football has long been deprived of, ultimately they lost 1-0 leaving them without points in the standings. The game had been accompanied by an international friendly against Latvia that they won 3-2, with Evan Ferguson making his breakout performance.
While Ireland may be without points, the calibre of football they played against France was certainly the most impressive in recent years. If Ireland can drum up another performance like that they'll have every opportunity to take points home from Athens.
Greece on the other hand won their first game comfortably, beating a weak Gibraltar side 3-0 away from home. However, that was the extent of their glory, as they succumbed to a lifeless 0-0 draw against Lithuania in the same International break. Despite Greece being the favourites for Friday's encounter, they currently sit 3 places behind Ireland in the world rankings.

Stephen Kenny said 'nothing will be easy' in terms of this fixture.
“We’re looking forward to the game, it’s the first competitive game in the new stadium, you want to be involved in that, we want that historic away win.
"Greece have a very good home record and have been in good form over the past year, we have got to respect that, nothing will be easy, we are going to have to fight for everything, it’s only the second game in the group, nothing will be decided so early. It’s certainly an important game for both teams.
