Tonight's DFB Pokal final provided immense drama as Eintracht Frankfurt landed a surprise 3-1 victory to secure their first trophy of this kind since 1988.
The game finished with a controversial end as Bayern went in search of a late equaliser. The referee deemed a Kevin-Prince Boateng kick on Javi Martinez not worthy of a penalty but was pressured into a VAR review. VAR also did not award the penalty and a corner was given. A furious Bayern were then hit on a big counter-attack that saw Mijat Gacinovic secure the victory.
With the entire team committed, the corner meant Bayern's goal was empty.
The result denied Jupp Heynckes a cup/league double and meant Frankfurt avenged their final defeat from last season. It provoked some incredible celebrations.
For manager Niko Kovac, it was the perfect ending against his future club as he is set to replace Heynckes at Munich.
