Harry Arter is a starter in Ireland's midfield in Austria this evening, and he sat down with Tony O'Donoghue to discuss his pride at lining out for Ireland just weeks after 'being linked with a move away from the country'.
The feisty Bournemouth midfielder revealed to RTÉ's Tony O'Donoghue that he was in the cinema with his girlfriend in the cinema when stories emerged that he may declare for his nation of birth, England, despite having represented Ireland at senior level in non-competitive fixtures.
Arter said:
I'm not sure where it come from. I was in the cinema, actually. It was after - or during the Georgia game. I was not watching that game - I'd promised to take my girlfriend to the cinema. So, I come out, I honestly looked at my phone thinking, 'someone's tapped my phone, or someone's put a message out there that I've declared or that I don't want to play for Ireland anymore.
It was a strange sort of situation, and one that I kind of laughed off in the end - one that I felt that didn't deserve me to come out with an answer to as it wasn't something I had created. For me, it was a little bit silly, and in the end I just chose to ignore it.
