Aston Villa's march towards promotion continues as they overcame Sheffield Wednesday in an enthralling 4-2 victory today.
Villa can thank two Irishmen for the invaluable three points, namely Glenn Whelan and Conor Hourihane. Whelan scored his first goal since 26 November 2011. It ended a run of 270 goalless games and brought Villa back into the game after Lucas Joao had given Wednesday the lead.

With the game finely balanced, it was Hourihane who stood up and powered home a strong shot to give Villa a crucial lead. Hourihane is quickly becoming a fan favourite under Steve Bruce as the Cork man was hailed by the faithful for once again grabbing a winner.

That’s why @ConorHourihane should not be dropped, always good for a goal. Important, important player. 9 from central midfield when he’s played as a holding midfielder for 2/3 of the season. #avfc #utv

Hourihane with another key goal and that’s now 9 for him this season 👏👏👏 #avfc

Robert Snodgrass added an injury-time penalty to add some gloss to the scoreline. The result leaves Villa just a point beyond Cardiff and automatic promotion.
