Spain bowed out of the World Cup last 16 this week after a shock penalty shoot-out loss against Russia. Now the cameras of Deportes Cuatro have released footage which appears to show Diego Costa warning Spanish coach Fernando Hierro and his team-mates that Koke will miss his penalty.
The game was a 1-1 draw after normal time and the nations could not be separated in extra-time either so penalties were required. Costa knows Koke well, as they are also club team-mates at Atlético Madrid. In the video, it is alleged that he warns Koke will miss to which Hierro responds: "Koke is fine."
Koke did indeed have his penalty saved by Igor Akinfeev. Costa response is telling as he immediately glances towards his coach in a distinct 'I told you so' manner. At the end Iago Aspas also missed and Spain were out.
