It says a lot for RTÉ's proficiency in the editing room that, as soon as Robbie Keane announced his plans to retire from international football last week, thoughts immediately wandered to the potential magnificence of the state broadcaster's Robbie Keane farewell montage.
If you're in any doubt as to how fond we are of fist-pumping RTÉ montages, just look at the sheer volume of them that we've put up on the site in recent years.
Last night, Tony O'Donoghue - who shared a wonderful emotional moment with his fellow veteran Keane last night - voiced the RTÉ tribute to the 68-goal Irish international, in what was a more-than-decent if still slightly underwhelming effort. Perhaps after years of producing the goods, we've grown to expect too much of the folks in Montrose.
End of an era - Thanks Robbie https://t.co/owAhDer0uV

Up the road at the new-look Eir Sport, however, things got seriously deep. The artists formerly known as Setanta captured Keano's curtain call with not one but two incredible Robbie montages, in what must go down as a dominant performance.
The first whet the appetite for what was to come, as a whole host of Irish sporting stars - including Ruby Walsh, Padraig Harrington, Bernard Dunne, Paul O'Connell and more - paid homage to the national football team's long-serving captain.
But if you discovered a family member or significant other openly weeping at circa 11pm last night, that will have been due to the hair-raising 'tage which closed Eir Sport's live broadcast of the game. Song of choice? Stole The Show by Kygo. Extremely controversial. But soon into the video, you come to the realisation that it works.
That quote from Robbie towards the end, as he hugs Martin O'Neill and heads for the tunnel with his children would melt even the coldest of hearts.
It was some way to go out.
