The Netherlands had a very memorable victory over Mexico last night to book their place into the final eight of the World Cup. However, the win was that little bit more special to Dirk Kuyt for a couple of reasons.

Not only did the former Liverpool become the seventh player to earn 100 caps for his country but the match fell on the seventh anniversary of his father's death. Gerrit Kuyt died on June 29, 2007 of cancer.

Kuyt fell to his knees and pointed towards the heavens in relief when Sneijder netted the 88th minute equaliser, paying respect to his father. Netherlands went on to win the game 2-1 with Huntelaar scoring the winner from a spot kick in the fourth minute of added time.
