Portugal vs Mexico was the Confederations Cup offering on Sunday, and it was indefinitely more watchable than the opening game between Russia and New Zealand.
The score was 1-1 at half-time, as Javier Hernandez responded from close range after Ricardo Quaresma had opened the scoring, but the highlight of the first half was the pass from Cristiano Ronaldo that set his long-time international teammate up.
Ronaldo was probably enjoying the distraction from swirling reports regarding his future that being on a football pitch offered, and he was responsible for the opening goal as he opened the Mexican defence up on the counter-attack.
After a stray touch in what is usually a scoring position for him, Ronaldo caught out the Mexican defence with a lovely reverse ball for Quaresma who showed composure to mug the goalkeeper and tap it home.
Shocking marking, as Quaresma was left all alone, but the spot and the execution from Ronaldo was top class.
The lead wouldn't last long, as Javier Hernandez extended his lead at the top of Mexico's all-time goalscorer list with a typical finish from close range after some good work by Carlos Vela.
The guy just scores goals.
Portugal vs Mexico was always going to be one of the better fixtures in a slightly underwhelming competition, and it has delivered, after 45 minutes anyway.
