Loris Karius take two. A horror show from Craig Gordon almost saw Celtic crash out of Europe, before a late equaliser from Rosenborg in the other group game allowed them to advance.
The Glasgow side entered tonight's final Europa League group game needing only a draw to guarantee their place in the knock-out stages, and with RB Salzburg already qualified, many fancied them to secure a result.
Celtic were lacklustre to say the least in the opening period, lucky to not fall behind on a couple of occasions. Craig Gordon made a vital one-on-one save to keep his side on level terms, but things soon go downhill fast for the ex-Sunderland goalkeeper.
With RB Leipzig leading against group minnows Rosenborg, Celtic would need a point to get through as things stood.
Salzburg took the lead just after the hour mark, and Gordon certainly could have done better to keep this header out.
There was certainly some pace on the shot, but a strong hand from Gordon could have kept the ball from finding its way into the back of the net. Things would only get worse from here.
While they had underperformed, Celtic still only needed one goal to advance. They pushed for an equaliser, but another clanger from Gordon put them in a very perilous position. The mistake is a carbon copy of Loris Karius' in the Champions League final, just watch this one:
What was he at?
Just when it looked like Celtic would crash out of Europe, some unexpected news started to filter through from Germany. Rosenborg, who had lost every match in the group up to this point, equalised against RB Leipzig.
Talk about a lucky break. Celtic would score a late goal through Ntcham after a rebound from a missed penalty to put a bit of gloss on the scoreline, but it didn't really matter.
Craig Gordon will certainly be thankful for the Norwegian club's unlikely intervention, and Celtic will live to fight another day.
Oh, and Rangers got knocked out too.
