Watch: Coutinho & Wijnaldum Vs 30 Liverpool U9s Players Was Surprisingly Enjoyable

The format isn't new; Take two pro players and put them up against a swarm of children, they've been doing it in Japan for years, but there was something unusually enjoyable about what is usually a fairly mundane PR exercise when Liverpool stars Philippe Coutinho and Giorginio Wijnaldum played a match against 30 kids from the club's U9 squads in the academy.

Maybe it's the fact that some of these Liverpool kids are actually impressively good at football, or the fact that both Coutinho and Wijnaldum both seemed to really enjoy themselves, but the 3 vs 30 match was a seriously enjoyable watch until the end.

Having borrowed a young goalkeeper (who looks useful it must be said), the two Liverpool first-teamers made a memory that their 30 opponents will never forget as they played out a match at Melwood.

Wijnaldum clearly wanted it more, a typical lack of defensive responsibility from Coutinho.

It was entertaining to see some kids try and tackle their teammates in desperation to be able to show off for the two stars, but we'd love to see more. Maybe throw Ragnar Klavan in there and give the kids a lesson in the physicality of the game.
