The Airtricity League title race was blown wide open last night as Shamrock Rovers ended Dundalk's unbeaten streak with a 2-1 victory at Oriel Park.
Fresh from a disappointing derby loss against Bohemians, Shamrock Rovers bounced back to clinch all three points thanks to a late Dylan Watts penalty that provoked consternation on the field.
Roberto Lopes had given the visitors an early lead but Dundalk roared back into the game and drew level thanks to a Michael Duffy goal. The winger's strike came in the same week that Republic of Ireland boss Martin O'Neill namechecked the former Celtic player for a possible call-up.
However, in the dying moments, there was huge drama when Ronan Finn was brought down and Dylan Watts converted the penalty. The decision enraged the locals and Seán Hoare was sent off after the final whistle.

It means just three points separate the big two at the top of the table, with Dundalk set to travel to Cork next month.
