Manchester United looked like, dare we say, the Manchester United old on Thursday night as they put Feyenoord to the sword thanks to wonderful performances by Wayne Rooney and Henrik Mkhitaryan.
Although the Armenian failed to score on the night, he was well deserving of his man of the match award as the fans were left wondering why the hell they hadn't seen him play like that before. Rooney too was a contender for the award with a well taken goal and assist, so it was an obvious choice as to who would do the post-match interview for BT Sport.
That was when we saw the stark contrast in both men. Rooney, with a chip on his shoulder have a spiky response to the journalist's question regarding his "point to prove", while Mkhitaryan was absolutely loving life and couldn't hold back his smile.
Rooney insisting that he never set foot inside that wedding, missing the point that it wasn't attending the wedding that set the media off in the first place. Still, there is no questioning that he responded in the perfect manner on the pitch.
As for Mkhitaryan, that was the type of performance expected of an outstandingly talented player, and if he can build on the confidence gained from it, he could really help Manchester United going forward.
