Despite his obvious disciplinary issues, lack of application, and bizarre personality, you can't help but love Mario Balotelli. Having the potential to be one of the top players in the world when he was younger, that ship seems to have long sailed by now.
Even if he has the natural talent to vault himself into such a position, he hardly possesses the mentality required to be one of the greats. He likes partying and acting the bollocks way too much for that.
Even if he will never reach the level many thought he was destined for, he is still performing to a reasonable level. After a couple of successful seasons at Nice, he forced through a move to Marseille in January. He started life off well there too, scoring three goals in his first four appearances.
He was back amongst the goals tonight, netting the opener against St Ettiene. The goal itself wasn't half bad, but we were loving that celebration. Take a look at this:
Only Balotelli would have the audacity to have his phone waiting by, and to actually have this one planned.
He actually posted the video to his Instagram story, you couldn't make it up. Here's the clip directly from the man himself:
What a celebration from Super Mario 😂🤳 pic.twitter.com/GRt4vFVG55

This was his fifth goal for his new club, and he certainly seems to be enjoying his football at the moment. If he can limit his antics to harmless incidents such as this, he may actually prove to be a valuable asset for Marseille.
We have seen many clubs tricked by such false dawns before, however, and the Italian can never seem to keep himself out of trouble for too long. Hopefully he proves us all wrong, but you would certainly have to have your doubt. For now, let's just all bask in the madness of it all.
