Manchester United and Arsenal meet tonight, with this fixture a far cry from the heavyweight clashes we were used to seeing earlier in the Premier League era.

The meetings between those two sides were some of the fiercest games we have seen in modern English football, with no shortage of star quality on show. Throughout the late 90's and early 00's, it was this pair that set the standard.

Games between United and Arsenal rarely disappointed and were never short on drama. We all remember the famous bust-up between Roy Keane and Patrick Vieira, and that's not even to mention the action on the pitch.

If only this evening's game served up such drama.

Ahead of the fixture, Monday Night Football regular Jamie Carragher was asked to pick his all-time Premier League combined United and Arsenal XI. Unsurprisingly, there are very few recent players on the side.

He refused to include his Sky Sports colleague Gary Neville, and Carragher also had an interesting take on how Roy Keane and Patrick Vieira could have fit into the same team.

It would have been interesting because I think that almost happened in the early 00's, there was talk of Vieira going to Manchester United. It would have been amazing to see.

Who would have been the boss in that midfield, that's what they were, they were the boss in both teams. I think it's difficult at times to have those two leaders in the centre of the park, so it would have been interesting to see how that combination would have worked.

Two great battlers and two great icons of the Premier League.

The likes of Wayne Rooney, David Beckham, Robert Pires, and Paul Scholes could all count themselves lucky to miss out, but it's difficult to argue with that team.

Gary Neville will probably be a bit annoyed, though.
