Having expressed our desire to see the return of Masters Football on numerous occasions here at Balls.ie, we were very intrigued to see what Sky Sports' new venture Star Sixes would bring.
And we were impressed.
An international tournament featuring the likes of Steven Gerrard, Michael Owen, Carles Puyol, Luis Garcia, Rivaldo, Jay Jay Okocha, and many more in 20 minute matches with a group stage and then a knockout? Yeah, we're interested.
Night one was an eventful affair as Spain beat England 4-1 in the opening match, but the most noteworthy piece of action was an absolutely shocking challenge from Carles Puyol on Phil Neville.
The former Barca star just does not do half-measures, so he went in fully committed to a challenge he had no business being in and Neville was very lucky to walk away. Neville was furious at the time, and even after calming down he expressed his unhappiness to Sky Sports.
Jaysus.
That is a potential career ender but for the fact that the careers of both men are over.
Puyol was reckless, but thankfully Neville was not too badly hurt. There were a number of spiky moments throughout the night as it is quite clear that these ex-pros have not lost their competitive edge.
We'll keep you up to date with highlights over the weekend.
