Everton seemed to have snatched a last-minute winner at Goodison Park today when Dominic Calvert-Lewin put the ball past David De Gea. Unfortunately for Everton, Gylfi Sigurdsson was sitting on the ground, right in front of De Gea as DCL scored. The goal was given initially only. But after VAR was asked to adjudge the goal, it was ruled out.
NO GOAL! 😳
Dominic Calvert-Lewin finds the net with a deflected effort, although it's controversially ruled out by VAR for offside!

Now confirmed by the Premier League as I've been explaining: "The VAR advised the referee that Sigurdsson was in an offside position directly in the line of vision of David de Gea and made an obvious action that impacted de Gea’s ability to make a save." #EVEMUN

Interestingly, Sky's cameras captured Calvert-Lewin watching a reply just before doing a post-match interview and he seemed convinced that the goal should have stood. Watch the video below.
"That is a DISASTER!"

Carlo Ancelotti thought similarly and received a postmatch red card for explaining his opinions to the referee. There was a lot of debate about the goal afterwards on social media, with most of the debate breaking down along partisan lines.
What's astonishing is that ALL EVERTON fans thinks it should stand, and ALL UNITED fans think it's offside.
I think it's offside.— Max Rushden 💙 (@maxrushden) March 1, 2020
Howard Webb, for one, believed the goal should have stood but it really seemed like De Gea was blocked.
Of course it’s offside, he’s literally lying right in front of the goalkeeper

Howard Webb-“ Calvert lewin’s shot appears to go off target therefore it would be seen as an own goal from maguire and should stand”
