UEFA have today confirmed that the 2017 Europa League final will go ahead as planned despite last night's horrific terror attack in Manchester, and there will be a moment's silence before kick-off to honour those who lost their lives.

With a Manchester club in the final, it's a difficult situation for all involved, but the show will go on as a sign that terror will not bring our world to a halt more than anything else.

That point was beautifully made by BT Sport, who themselves had an awkward situation of filming a Europa League final preview show knowing full well that it matters very little in the grand scheme of things, but the opening message from presenter Jake Humphrey did a fantastic job of expressing how events like the final can be used as a show of solidarity.

That was very well handled, it must be said.

The Manchester United squad flew out and arrived in Stockholm today, but all of them will have been deeply affected by the attack which took place so close to home for them. Jose Mourinho cancelled his press conference today in the wake of the news, but he will surely be instructing his players that they are now a symbol for the city with the eyes of the footballing world on them on Wednesday night.
