Brentford have a reputation as an innovative club.

Their owner Matthew Benham is a trailblazer in the use of analytics in football.

On Saturday, in their 2-1 loss to Birmingham at St. Andrews, Brentford attempted a little bit of innovation on the pitch.

It did not work well.

Birmingham deployed the standard defensive wall for a free kick. Brentford felt just the single wall was not enough and set up not one, but two additional walls of their own for Alan Judge's free kick.

What exactly they were attempting to achieve is unclear.
