Mark Clattenburg was forced to halt proceedings as Czech Republic vs Croatia entered the last five minutes of normal time, as the Croatian fans threw numerous flares onto the pitch close to Petr Cech's goal.
Bizarrely, the flares were thrown as Croatia were winning 2-1, and with five minutes left to play the delay gave the Czech Republic players a chance to chat with their manager.
Ivan Rakitic and other Croatian players even went over to plead with the fans to stop throwing flares, when another one was thrown in their vicinity that exploded, making a strange situation even more strange.
The Czech then went up the pitch and were awarded a penalty which levelled the game at 2-2, and the Croatian players will no doubt be very upset with the fans who threw the flares for disrupting the game.
Why would you do that? It's absolutely insane. Croatian fans had been a delight according to most who met them around France, but this was very strange behaviour, presumably from a small section of the support.
There will be fines from UEFA, but really you have to wonder if that equaliser would have come had there not been such a big pause in action.
