This has to be some sort of record. Bayern Munich have scored an own goal 13 SECONDS into their Bundesliga clash with Augsburg this evening.
Ahead of their massive Champions League clash against Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday, the German champions had a final chance to fine-tune their squad when they travelled to Augsburg this evening. Manuel Neuer made a return to the team after his recent injury layoff, and they would have hoped to put in a strong performance ahead of the game in midweek.
Things couldn't have gotten off to a worse start. Somehow Bayern conceded after 13 seconds. Not only this, but it was an own goal, and a pretty bad one at that.
The hosts raced down the left wing right from kick-off, having no trouble getting beyond some questionable Bayern defenders. When a testing ball was delivered into the penalty area, Leon Goretzka somehow managed to back heel into his own net.
Take a look at this:
This has to be one of the fastest own goals of all time. A similar effort is certainly not springing to mind.
Bayern could do with a win in this game too. Not only will they be hoping to go into Tuesday's game in decent form, but three points would also be hugely helpful in the Bundesliga title race. They currently trail leaders Borussia Dortmund by five points, and will be hoping to extend their current record of six consecutive league titles.
Dortmund have been in flying form in the league, but they did suffer a heavy loss to Spurs in midweek. That may be good news for their title challenge, however, with all their eggs firmly being in the Bundesliga basket until the end of the season.
