One of the great regrets of modern football is that we didn't see enough of Ronaldinho. Watching the exuberant and raffish Brazilian between 2002 and 2006 was just about as transcendent an experience as football could possibly furnish, but somewhere in the aftermath, it all went wrong. Somewhere in that time, Ronaldinho lost his hunger for football, and became a restless and peripatetic spirit, travelling the world for short and largely meaningless stints at an assortment of different clubs. His loss of interest in top-level football denied us all another couple of years of revelling in the sheer audacity of his instincts.
There is nobody better in the world, however, to beguile a one-off charity game that Ronaldinho, and that is exactly what the ex-Barca man did in this All-Star charity game against the Mexico All-Stars. Oooof:
The knowledge that we could have had much more means that moments like these are tinged with regret, yet are still to be enjoyed. Magnificent. Ronaldinho was playing with the FIFA Legends - coached by Jose Mourinho - against the Mexican All-Stars, which featured cult heroes like Jared Borghetti, who scored that header against Italy at the 2002 World Cup.
