Having been borne down with the vestiges of the Louis Van Gaal era in a ponderous first half, Manchester United showed the spirit of a better era in sealing a 1-0 win with virtually the final kick of the game.
Hull's spirit was commendable, however, all the more impressive considering the royal mess the club managed to get themselves in ahead of this season. The club are up for sale, and, as a result, signed just one player in the transfer window. As part of the dispute, Steve Bruce quit as manager.
His son Alex appeared on BT's live coverage for the game today, and right at the end of the coverage, he was asked about what the players thought of the situation. Bruce confirmed that the players had asked the owner to bring in some bodies, a move which earned the scorn on Paul Scholes.
