Poor old Matthew Tipton had a bit of a howler on Saturday after Warrenpoint Town were knocked out of the Irish Cup by Cliftonville in extra time.
The underdogs were drawing 2-2 in the closing minutes but were a man up when Tipton decided to bring himself on, to add a bit of experience. What actually transpired was that Tipton got booked twice in the space of three minutes and Cliftonville went on to win the match 4-3 in extra time.
Oh dear.
Speaking to Q Radio afterwards, Tipton said:
I've let the boys down in the dressing room. I've let the fans that have traveled up the road down, it's the whole football club that I've let down. I've gone on to offer some experience and guile, and I've done something stupid, which has cost us the game.
What's even worse is that the tackle he got his second yellow card for could easily have been a straight red. He apologised to everyone when chatting to the BBC after the match, saying 'To be let down by your manager is nothing short of a disgrace and I can take that on my shoulders.'
