This season, the Champions League stakes in Ireland have changed massively. With staggered 6pm and 8pm kickoffs across Tuesday and Wednesday nights, there will be more games than ever on TV. The bulk of those games in Ireland will be on Virgin Media Sport, a brand-new sports channel from the stable once known as TV3.
TV3's current collection of channels are being rebranded as Virgin One, Two, and Three and will be accompanied by a new sport channel which has the rights to the 6pm Tuesday kick-off in the Champions League and both Wednesday games. In addition, they have the rights to the Europa League and the new UEFA Nations League.
Virgin Media Sport will be free for Virgin TV customers.
The pundits covering European games on the new channel were unveiled today. There are some familiar faces from TV3: Tommy Martin remains the main host, and returns along with Graeme Souness, Brian Kerr, and Kevin Kilbane.
Keith Andrews will be on air too, as will new addition Niall Quinn. Niamh Kinsella will also be on hosting duties.
Quinn spent many years doing punditry with Sky Sports, but stepped away at the beginning of last season.
