Virgin Media have announced that they are to broadcast Liam Miller's Tribute match this month. The match will take place on September 25th in Pairc Ui Chaoimh.
A press release from the company stated that proceeds from the broadcast of the match including all advertising and sponsorship will go straight to the Liam Miller fund, which will be used to help Liam's wife Clare and their three children rebuild their lives with Marymount Hospice and other charities also benefiting from the event.
The fixture, which is a sell-out, will feature many former football stars including Roy Keane, Denis Irwin, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Robbie Keane, Kevin Kilbane, Damien Duff.
Coverage of the event will begin on Virgin Media Sports from 2pm and will be available to all Virgin TV customers. Highlights will shown later on Virgin Media One.
The decision to broadcast the game on Virgin Media Sports could be a controversial one however, as fans will need to either be existing Virgin Media customers in order to watch the game live, in effect if you are not a Virgin Media customer you will have to subscribe to Virgin in order to watch the charity match as it happens.
It has also been reported that Manchester United’s official TV station, MUTV, is in negotiations for the overseas rights to the game.
