Everton are now said to be leading the race to sign Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk, with the Liverpool Echo and Scottish Daily Mail reporting that they are willing to stump up the £10m to sign him.
Sunderland, Southampton and Norwich City have all be linked with van Dijk but Everton look to be the only club who can afford to pay Celtic's asking price.
Whether or not their interest in van Dijk is fueled by rumours John Stones could be on his way to Chelsea is an argument for another day. Martinez needs to strengthen his defence anyhow, given that they've released Sylvain Distin and Antolin Alcaraz, so perhaps the signing of van Dijk would not mean that Stones is necessarily leaving.
Meanwhile, in other transfer news, United have signed a goalkeeper while Arsenal have gotten rid of one, with Wojciech Szczęsny confirming his move to Roma via Instagram. Of course.
