Every so often the prospect of a European superleague is talked about in the rumour column of newspapers. Even recently, Times journalist Oliver Kay was duped by a story that one was going to be formed. Put Vinnie Jones down as another advocate of the idea. Jones wants the top English clubs to form a league with other European superpowers but he seems to have a lax definition of what constitutes a superpower.
"Why not have the Premiership but then the elite Premiership which is the European Premiership."
“Let’s open it up to Barcelona and the German sides. Then you’d be talking about the best league in the world.
“Ours isn’t the best league in the world. I keep hearing this on the radio from Alan Brazil and people like that, “ours is the best league in the world”. It’s not.
“The top six is the best in the world, maybe, but until you start putting in the likes of Celtic, Rangers, Barcelona, Borussia Monchengladbach, Real Madrid and Inter Milan, it’s not going to be the best league in the world.
Borussia Monchengladbach as one of the best teams in the world? With that logic Jones probably wants Mk Dons or AFC Wimbeldon in there too.
