The build up to last season was one of the most momentous in the history of the Premier League. For the first time there was genuine talk amongst Liverpool fans that, whisper it, the Premier League title may not have been on its way to Anfield. In the four preceding years Liverpool had finished 7th, 6th, 8th and 7th and while there was confidence that Brendan Rodgers was beginning to put a decent side together, the majority of fans were hopeful of a Champions League place at best.
Then, Liverpool proved everyone wrong and came within a captain's slip of that much coveted Premier League title. Regardless of what people may say, having a Liverpool side challenging for the title is good for the Premier League but one offshoot of that is that the famously high expectation levels at Anfield have once again soared higher than should be reasonably expected.
