A draw may not be what they wanted, but if the League of Ireland title does end up returning to Oriel Park this year, Dundalk may owe their much discussed pitch a (very) slight nod of thanks.
It was cagey an affair between Dundalk and Shamrock Rovers, something which might have been expected. However, a stray leg from Dundalk goalkeeper Peter Cherrie, gave Ryan Brennan the chance to give Rovers a late lead and send Cork City fans into raptures.
However, Brennan slipped at the crucial moment and although a draw is far from ideal, it leaves Dundalk one point clear of Cork with two games remaining, one of which is that potential title showdown at Oriel on the last day of the season.
