Cardiff City today announced Russell Slade as successor to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Owner Vincent Tan could not turn down the opportunity to have a dig at former manager Malky Mackay.

The club released a statement which is pretty unremarkable until you get to the third paragraph.

Look at Russell’s track record. He certainly deserves to be given a chance. After all, Cardiff gave a chance to a mediocre manager from Watford and he took the Club to the Premier League. I did however give him a lot of money to spend for that – in fact, too much money.

MacKay left the club in December of last year. He was the favourite to take over as Crystal Palace manager following the departure of Tony Pulis but a dossier sent to Palace by Cardiff ceased Mackay's employment opportunities at the London club.

Vincent is not a man to just let something go.
