Burnley manager Vincent Kompany says there is "a big upside and little risk" to his side signing Michael Obafemi.
The Ireland international joined Burnley from Swansea on loan towards the end of the January transfer window. He had been frozen out at the Welsh side, and had not played since November.
In September, the 22-year-old was dropped by Swansea boss Russell Martin after a move to Burnley fell through, and in December Martin added that Obafemi had "not given us anywhere near enough this season".
'Michael Obafemi needs to get 100 per cent fit'
"I come from Brussels and if you grow up [in] Brussels and you have a team like Anderlecht, then everyone comes with a bit of flavour and a taste, and a bit of colour," Kompany said during a press conference when asked about Obafemi's attitude.
"For me the most important thing to check is fundamentally is the person a good person or a bad person? Can they be told and coached and accept it? On that side I am not worried. The rest of it, everybody has to have an opportunity to grow and improve. We have done it (the deal) in a way that is smart for us as a club. There is a big upside and little risk."
Asked what Obafemi will add to his side, who are currently five points clear at the top of the Championship, Kompany quipped, "an extra smile". Burnley also have the option to make the move permanent this summer.
"The profile, his speed," continued Kompany.
"He has been well coached for many years so there is a huge advantage for him and us in that he will assimilate quickly. The only thing is, and he knows because I have been honest with him, is he is on his own pathway and we want to get him fit and 100 per cent. There is no rush. He just needs to get 100 per cent fit and bring that smile to the team and all will be well."
