We can only assume it is some form of counter intuitive advertising for the social media age. Create a seriously crap ad, wait for everyone to share it and there you have it, social media marketing. If that is the case then we now live in a terrible world.
If it's not the case and West Brom really did try use one of their own players getting sent off to sell a jersey, then there's not a whole lot else to say. This summed it up quite well.
